Breeder (Strawberry and Other Variety Development) ◆ Creating Varieties that Change the Future of Agriculture / University of Tokyo Startup □■ A University of Tokyo startup venture in agriculture / A company gaining attention in the media / Tackling the global agricultural crisis caused by climate change with next-generation varieties that are resilient to climate change ■□ ■ Job Overview: Our company is engaged in the development of new strawberry varieties aimed at expanding strawberry production both domestically and internationally. In this position, you will be responsible for fieldwork related to variety development in breeding projects centered on strawberries, including cultivation trials, crossbreeding, surveys, selection, and data recording. In the future, there may also be opportunities to engage in breeding and cultivation trials for new crops such as grapes, as well as collaborative projects with external companies and research institutions. ■ Job Responsibilities: ◇ Conducting breeding and cultivation trials centered on strawberries ◇ Crossbreeding, seed collection, and management of seedlings and strains ◇ Investigating and recording growth, yield, fruit quality, etc. ◇ Assisting in the evaluation and selection of promising strains ◇ Organizing and managing trial data ◇ Cultivation management in fields and greenhouses, as well as maintaining trial environments ◇ Promoting breeding projects in collaboration with internal and external members ■ Business Trips: There will be business trips to collaborative breeding project sites and production sites both domestically and internationally. ■ Preferred Qualifications: ・Experience working at seed companies, agricultural corporations, research fields, testing sites, etc. ・Experience in cultivating strawberries, vegetables, fruit trees, flowers, etc. ・Experience in breeding, cultivation trials, variety evaluation, yield surveys, etc. ・Experience in crossbreeding, seed collection, and management of seedlings and seeds ・Experience in planning and executing small-scale trial plans ・Experience in providing work instructions and progress management to field members ・Comfortable communicating in English.

Skills and qualifications:

• Practical experience in breeding, cultivation trials, variety evaluation, and research field management
• Comfortable with cultivation work in fields and greenhouses, and able to promote fieldwork independently
• Able to observe plants and record/manage data carefully
• Basic PC operation skills
• Class 1 ordinary driver's license
• Experience working at seed companies, agricultural corporations, research fields, testing sites, etc. (preferred)
• Experience in cultivating strawberries, vegetables, fruit trees, flowers, etc. (preferred)
• Experience in breeding, cultivation trials, variety evaluation, yield surveys, etc. (preferred)
• Experience in crossbreeding, seed collection, and management of seedlings and seeds (preferred)
• Experience in planning and executing small-scale trial plans (preferred)

[Saitama or Tokyo] Technical Dissemination and Guidance for Strawberry Producers ◆ Agriculture Startup from the University of Tokyo / 125 Days Annual Leave / Flexible Working Hours ■ Recruitment Background: Our varieties are bred using "high-speed breeding" technology, and we plan to conduct trial cultivation and trial sales in our greenhouse in 2024, with contracted cultivation by 20-30 farmers starting in the fall of 2025. Our varieties require an unprecedented speed in understanding their characteristics and standardizing/disseminating cultivation methods. To ensure that producers can cultivate new varieties with confidence, we will systematize cultivation methods that reflect the realities of production sites in collaboration with breeders. ■ Job Responsibilities: ◎ Research and development of optimal cultivation methods for our varieties (such as strawberries) - Understanding the characteristics of our varieties - Development and standardization of cultivation methods suitable for contracted production ◎ Dissemination of our varieties to partner producers - Introduction of standard cultivation methods - Individualization and proposal of cultivation techniques tailored to the specific circumstances of each producer ◎ Understanding the current situation, challenges, and needs of producers - Standardization and aggregation of quantitative and qualitative data related to cultivation environments and production activities - Identifying challenges and insights from production sites through data analysis ◎ Feedback from producers' insights to breeding development - Providing appropriate feedback on challenges and insights from production sites to the breeding development team - Optimizing breeding goals and supporting high-speed breeding through active involvement in the breeding process ◎ Support for the establishment of companies newly entering agricultural production. ■ Work Location: - Mainly at research farms in Saitama Prefecture and the headquarters lab in Koganei City, Tokyo, but flexible arrangements can be discussed. - Remote work is also possible depending on business conditions. - Domestic business trips to partner producers nationwide approximately once a month. * Production of our varieties has also started overseas (e.g., Malaysia). Depending on knowledge, skills, and interests, there may be opportunities for technical dissemination to overseas producers as part of the job role.

Skills and qualifications:

• Ability to analyze and evaluate physiological responses of plant bodies
• Ability to analyze and evaluate cultivation environments for agricultural products
• Experience in plant cultivation
• Experience in trial and error in plant cultivation (research areas are also acceptable)
• Experience in setting themes independently and conducting tests/research activities with initiative
• Experience working in a role dedicated to cultivation management at agricultural production businesses engaged in facility horticulture
• English communication skills (preferred)
• Ordinary driver's license (preferred)
